What Is Sintered Stone (Differences vs Granite & Quartz)

Here we discuss what sintered stone is, including the costs and the differences with granite and quartz.

Sintered stone is one of the new hot topics in the world of interior design. That’s because they represent the best of both worlds – nature and technology.

Sintered stone uses natural materials that produce beautiful surfaces and uses a technical process for greater speed and flexibility. The speed saves you money and the flexibility allows you to choose color, texture and size.

All these options are available while the quality of the materials remains unchanged.

What is sintering?

Sinteren is the joining of different materials into a fixed part. This process actually mimics the natural process of granite formation.

Basically, the sintering process is an artificial version of the intense heat and pressure exerted by the earth on materials to create certain surfaces.

In the production of the surface of the sintered stone, the materials themselves must be selected and then follow this process to imitate the surface of the earth.

To determine which natural materials need to be put together, it is best to know which colours and textures are desired in the end result.

Usually a sintered object is used in interior design, such as an expensive countertop, but there are many other applications for this material. B. Chimney surfaces, wall and floor coverings.

What are sintered surfaces?

Sintered surfaces are made from natural materials that undergo an artificial sintering process that simulates natural compression and ambient heat.

Sintered surfaces create the illusion of natural irregularities and unique properties. Sintered stone can resemble natural stone, wood or even a smooth surface.

This type of stone can be made in different colours, shapes, sizes and textures, all of which are made of natural materials. This stone is a relatively light material that requires fewer structural elements on the surface.

Sintered stone is a common choice when it comes to countertops, fenders and other kitchen surfaces. It can also be used for floor coverings, swimming pools, outdoor coverings, swimming pools and spas.

These stone surfaces can cover large areas because they are durable, easy to clean and have a good price. Sintered stone is very suitable for outdoor use because it is waterproof and weatherproof.

What is the value of a sintered stone?

Inhabited rocks are generally measured and evaluated based on their surface area. The price per square foot for sintered stone is about $60 to $100 per set.

This can vary depending on the design, colours, shapes and dimensions. Depending on the region, the installation and the materials required for the installation, the price may also vary slightly.

The price will be reduced if you can do the installation yourself. Do-it-yourself installation is not the recommended method, but usually requires the intervention of a professional.

The average total price is about $3,750, all-inclusive. For larger or larger pieces you can expect a price of about $5,000, and for smaller or smaller pieces it can be as low as $1,000. Ask your local dealer for a quote and an exact price.

Sintered stone against granite

Sintered stone is an artificial stone, while granite is a natural material.

Granite is a very strong material to prevent cracks and fractures and is also heat resistant. Granite is also hard enough to blur knives! As granite is a natural material, it is unfortunately quite porous and has to be sealed every 6 months.

This type of stone has many characteristics similar to granite countertops, which are always in great demand.

Like the above mentioned granite, sintered stone is resistant to both heat and ice and frost. It is also resistant to scratches and traps that can cause surface defects.

While granite is a porous material, sintered stone is the opposite: It is waterproof and does not need to be sealed.

Because it is scratch-resistant and waterproof, it is much more hygienic than a surface such as granite, which can harbour bacteria if not properly maintained.

In addition, sintered stone is available in a wide range of colors, pigments and patterns, while granite is generally based on the natural elements that create it.

Granite is an extremely heavy material and can be quite difficult to install yourself. This is generally the case with this type of stone, but depending on its size it is lighter.

In addition, sintered stone has high mechanical strength, i.e. it has a bending structure. The flexible structure depends on the amount of surface support needed and its fineness. Sintered stone can be thinner and needs less support than granite countertops.

Sintered stone against quartz

Sintered stone and quartz have the quality of artificial stone in common.

Quartz is a non-porous stone that is resistant to stains and scratches. The main difference between sintered stone and quartz stone is that sintered stone is made from natural materials, whereas quartz contains artificial products such as resins and binders.

Both bricks are manufactured according to specially developed processes in order to have a faster turnaround time. The disadvantage of quartz is that it has the ability to burn when exposed to extreme heat, while sintered stone can withstand high temperatures.

Both sintered stone and quartz are extremely hard, even harder than granite, where sintered stone is slightly harder than quartz. As said, quartz, like sintered stone, is not porous, which means it is very hygienic and antimicrobial.

In addition, both materials can be selected and manufactured in different colours. This has to do with the fact that the colour can change during production.

Sintered stone is particularly suitable for long-term use and for use on islands. It is a lighter surface than other natural materials.

This is important because it can enable the user to have a longer awning. Not only can they have a longer overhang, but they also have less grip because there is less chance of breakage.
