Although black ants are generally harmless, they can quickly cause nuisance. Unfortunately, the ants love the idea of our houses. They love shelter, and of course they love food. They also tend to congregate in areas with easy access to water. That’s why black ants are usually found in the kitchen and bathroom. The presence of black ants on the bathroom counter can become more than annoying. No matter how clean your counters are, they come and go as long as they have access to them. If you want to get rid of the little black ants in your bathroom, try one or more of the following tried and true tips.
1. Eliminate attraction
The first thing you should always do if you have a problem with black ants is find out why they come at all. As mentioned earlier, ants almost always hunt for food and water. If your bathroom has a leaking faucet or if there are constant puddles of water in the same places, ants are likely to gather in these areas. If you find ants in your sewer, it could mean they’re food particles stuck between your hair or something. Eliminating food and water sources for ants probably solves the problem, not bats. It just means keeping counters and sinks dry. In addition, the sink drain must always be cleaned. Some can even dry the shower and bath after each use. It all depends on the severity of the black ants plague.
2. Essential oils
If you keep your bathroom clean and dry and still have a problem with black ants, try natural repellents first. Essential oils are a great way to get rid of these creatures, because some smells deter them. Fresh scents such as tea tree and mint, for example, are not very attractive to ants. They also repel citrus scents such as lemon and orange. A strong smell, such as carnations, is not considered attractive at all by black ants. If you prefer one of these fragrances, you can make a simple mixture of water and a few drops of essential oils. Put it in a siphon and spray it on the areas constantly occupied by black ants. 3. Receiving stations
If you don’t have a time problem, setting up bait stations may be the best option for you. When ants go to the toilet, they always end up back in their nest. Because you can’t always aim for nests, bait is a great way to get rid of ants once and for all. When ants find food, they always bring it back to their neighbouring colony. Bait stations attract ants, but instead of providing them with food, bait stations provide them with poison. The unsuspecting ant will then return this poison to its colony, which will eventually attack and kill it. It may take a little longer than a natural spray, but it works longer. You can make your own bait by mixing borax with a little syrup, but for simplicity you can just buy bait stations at shops.
4. Insecticides
Another option you might want to consider is the use of an insecticide spray. Although insecticides use chemicals that are not only harmful to humans, they can be effective if used with care. You can buy different types of insecticide sprays, but most are designed to poison black ants. Although this is the quickest way to get rid of vermin, it doesn’t always guarantee that ants won’t come back. Insecticides generally target the nervous system of ants, killing them immediately or at least within minutes. These are strong solutions that must either be cleaned immediately or distributed. If you leave the insecticide on the surface of the bathroom, you should leave the area for a while to prevent inhalation.
