7 Steps To An Affordable DIY Above-Ground Pool

With the pandemic currently affecting our lives, certain protocols are already known as the new standard. The decision to relax in favourite swimming pools is now considered impossible due to social distance protocols.

Underground pool

As an Amazon Assistant, I earn my money through qualifying purchases.

Most swimming pools are therefore temporarily closed and some are only available for private events.

But that should not stop you from taking a well-deserved break, because you can buy and install your own above-ground pool!

You can ask: How about a pool in the ground to get a pool feeling? It’s possible, but incredibly expensive.

According to HomeAdvisor.com, a home improvement website, the total cost of an in-ground pool ranges from about $36,000 to $66,000.

The above-ground pool, on the other hand, costs only $750! You see, there’s really an important difference between the two when it comes to cost.

An above ground pool can be cheap, but it can be complicated to install, especially if you make it yourself.

In addition, the hidden costs can be quite shocking because you don’t consider chemicals, detergents, electricity and water bills, repairs, decks and maintenance.

There may be several, but unfortunately they come with a package. One of the most important things you need to do is register with your insurance agent.

This costs you higher insurance premiums, but it gives you an advantage in case of unforeseen events.

If you’re still not sure if you can build your above-ground pool the way you imagined it, here are a few steps to help you get started in no time.

1) Plan the best location for the pool.

First check with your municipality if there are protocols for installing swimming pools on your site.

In some municipalities, permits are required before the plan can be implemented. It is best to do this in advance to save time, money and effort.

Also the safest place is away from trees and electricity cables. The pool should not be too far from your house, as you will certainly need a power outlet to power your pool pump.

You can even use pool design software to create a plan on your computer to get a better idea of how the whole project will fit into your space.

2) Buy a swimming pool.

It is no problem if you decide to take this step first, but it is preferable that you already have a plan that takes into account the location, the location of the deck, the design, the accessories such as the pool covers and everything you find most suitable for your pool.

The best place to check above ground pools is a do-it-yourself store such as Home Depot, Lowes and some local or online shops like Discount Pool Supply.

3) Start preparing the desired location.

Remove stones or sticks from your pool. The surface should ideally be flat to avoid problems once the pool is installed.

Also avoid the common mistake of using sand to level the subfloor. The sand will probably move, but it can act as a buffer between the bottom of the pool and the ground.

4) Install electricity.

Before starting work, open the circuit breaker and bury the cables at least one metre deep to prevent possible accidents.

However, it is preferable to use a qualified professional electrician to ensure safety, as there are many risks associated with this task.

Of course some people can take care of it, but it is always better to choose the safest solution: hiring an electrician.

5) Mount the swimming pool.

This task may seem simple because you need to assemble a manual and parts, but you should consider hiring a professional to do it for you.

However, if you are determined to do the work yourself, the best advice you can rely on is to read the instructions carefully, follow them and don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it.

6) Install the required filter.

To achieve this you need to connect the pool pump to your filter. There are several filter options to choose from: Sand filter, cartridge filter or diatomaceous earth filter.

The main purpose of the filter is to remove bacteria and other impurities from the water, while chlorine does wonders to kill bacteria in the pool.

7) Fill the pond with water.

Take a hose, turn on the filter and make sure your pool contains the right amount of chlorine. Filling the pool with water can take hours, but you can finally get the whole family excited to have fun and take a well-deserved break!
