Why is My Vacuum Making That High Pitched Noise?

Why is My Vacuum Making That High Pitched Noise?

Ever wonder why your vacuum makes a high-pitched noise when it is on? Or why it makes a high-pitched noise when it is idle? Or why it makes a high-pitched noise when you are vacuuming? A vacuum that makes a high-pitched noise when it is idle or is running low on suction is usually referred to as a “clogged” vacuum. An aspirator vacuum is an air cleaner that gets its suction power from a fan that blows air through a filter and into the vacuum.

Your vacuum cleaner can be a noisy and stressful machine. I know because I am a human who has a vacuum cleaner which makes a high pitched noise from time to time.  There are a lot of possible causes for this noise, including a dirty filter, clogged filter, motor, switches, drive belt, or the cord. With these simple troubleshooting tips, hopefully you can solve your vacuum cleaner’s high-pitched noise.

A vacuum cleaner is a device used to remove dirt from the floor by drawing in air through an electric motor that rotates and sucks the dirt from the surface you are vacuuming. The device works by creating a vacuum inside, which sucks in air from outside as well as dust and other fine particles from the surface being cleaned. This makes cleaning easy, efficient and fast. The vacuum cleaner usually makes noise, but if you hear a high-pitched tone, it’s important to check the cause of the unusual noise. According to Philips, there may be several reasons for this high noise level.

  • Air leakage – Air leakage is one of the causes of this noise. When large debris enters the vacuum, it can clog the tube, hose or nozzle and obstruct airflow, causing a high-pitched noise. It is advisable to check that the vacuum cleaner is not blocked, as hair or dust can obstruct the airflow. It is also important to make sure that the hoses are not loose or kinked, as this also restricts airflow.
  • Age – The age factor of the vacuum cleaner is another possible reason why your vacuum cleaner makes noise. According to Amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/ ), with prolonged use of the unit, usually over two years, wear and tear can cause the belts to break or loosen, reducing suction power and overloading the unit, resulting in a high-pitched squealing sound.
  • Dried-out motor grease – The grease in your vacuum’s motor can dry out, preventing the metal parts of the motor from lubricating properly. When metal parts rub against each other while the motor is running, your vacuum cleaner makes a loud noise. The culprit may also be the motor pulley bearing, which needs regular lubrication and the motor joints.
  • Filled dust container – High frequency noise cannot be eliminated by completely emptying your dust container. When the bag is full and filled, there is pressure inside the unit because there is no room for dust to enter. Long strands or hairs can also get stuck in the brush roller, which has the same effect as a full dustpan. Therefore, in either case, emptying the container or cleaning the brush roll will eliminate the noise.
  • Uneven working heights – Uneven cleaning heights can also contribute to noise from your vacuum. It is important to adapt the working height of the machine to the surfaces to be cleaned, because these are different, for example. B. Carpet or floor, require different working heights. If the height of your vacuum cleaner is not properly adjusted to the working height, the vacuum cleaner may emit high-frequency sounds.
  • Clogged Filter – A clogged filter can also be the cause of your vacuum’s high-pitched noise. The filter is important in a vacuum cleaner because it filters out dirt and particles that are trapped or collected and not visible to the naked eye. This is important because such contamination can harm you or other residents if it ends up in the environment. Over time, however, the filter can become clogged or broken due to this dirt. If your filter is clogged or broken, it may be the cause of the noise and you should remove it, rinse and dry it before use or replace it completely if it is broken. It should be noted that different vacuum cleaner models use different filters. So you need to make sure that you are using the right filter, because the wrong filter can also cause this noise. Recently bagless vacuum cleaners have been introduced, and they make a lot of noise.
  • Small caster wheels – The caster wheels on your unit may be neglected and contribute to the noise of your unit. However, the wheels of the vacuum cleaner should be large enough so that you can easily clean different surfaces and carpets, as small wheels can cause the device to get stuck in obstacles or pipes, causing it to spin or deteriorate, hence the noise.
  • Inadequate input size – The performance of your unit is determined not only by the motor, but also by the input size. If the connection is not correctly sized or if the power supply is insufficient, your unit will lose suction power, which will cause this noise. This problem is usually easily solved by a clear indication of the power of your appliance.
  • Replacing nozzles with incorrect nozzles – B. Nozzles and hoses replaced periodically due to wear and tear on your equipment. Different companies offer different versions of these extensions. If you have recently replaced these nozzles, check that they are the correct ones recommended by the manufacturer of your machine, as they can cause this noise.
  • Loose intake cylinder – The condition of your unit’s intake cylinder is critical to its operation. If the cylinder is not closed properly, it may cause this unusual noise. Therefore, make sure that this cylinder is properly closed. The same principle applies to the brush roller which, when not rotating, causes this noise and must be firmly secured.
  • Faulty fan – the role of the fan in your unit is very important, as it creates a negative pressure that causes a suction effect. If the blower is defective, the suction power does not reach the optimum level, which means that the vacuumed dirt is not moved properly through the hose, which can also be the cause of the noise. Household appliances, such as B. Vacuum cleaners generally make more noise as they age. It is therefore important to check the life of your appliance by consulting the manufacturer’s manual, as this noise may indicate that it is time to replace the appliance with a new one.
