Corrugated roofs belong to the same family as corrugated roofs. It is manufactured in a similar way (in a steel plant), it is attached to the roof in the same way and the installation costs are about the same.
The main difference is in appearance. 5V jointed and ribbed metal roofing panels can often be confused with standing seam panels, which are located on the upper echelon of the residential and architectural metal roofing.
Costs
On the basis of the price of the pure material, corrugated board certainly belongs to the same category as corrugated board.
The price depends a bit on who you buy your materials from, but the price range of $1.50 to $3.50 per linear foot is the one you will usually find. – This assumes that you are using coated steel (such as G-60 or G-90 galvanised steel or Galvalume), stainless steel or an aluminium product.
Then add a minimum of $2.50 to $4.00 per square meter for professional installation and you get a base price of $4 to $7.50 per square meter of installed ribbed metal panels.
Note: Labor costs can be more than $3 per square meter. The total cost should be less than $7.00 to $9.50 per square meter, which means that in some cases the cost of warranty work can be $4.00 to $6.00 per square meter.
Why can installation costs be so high? A good location is part of the equation, as is the complexity of your roof, the slope of the roof and the amount of custom metal siding required for the job.
If the existing roof is demolished and discarded, it is worth showing it on a separate line. The same applies to any roof repairs. The good news is that it is possible to install a ribbed metal roof over an existing roof.
For a medium sized roof (say 1,600 square feet), the total cost of installation is likely to be between $6,500 and $10,500.
A very large roof, say 3,000 square feet, would be double, wouldn’t it? Not necessarily. If it is a single roof, it can be much less than half, because the more items you order and the more work the contractor does, the lower the total price per square meter of the project can be.
THE RETURN ON INVESTMENT: With an all-metal roof, the return on investment (value for money) is excellent. It starts at about 86% and may be higher, depending on the location.
This means that if, for example, you spend $10,000 on a ribbed metal roof and sell your house while the roof is still in good condition, you can expect to recoup $8,600 of that cost from that part of your house alone.
Homes on the east coast of the United States generally perform better than the 86%.
Metal ribbed plate options
The distinguishing feature of corrugated sheets is the U-shaped corrugated curve. There can be a lot of variation between the top curves (or ribs) when using a ribbed coating.

In general, each panel is 36 inches wide, sometimes less. There is a raised rib or point at each end that should overlap the other panel. They are connected by means of metal screws, which are then inserted into the roof cladding and pressed firmly onto the roof.
There will be a regular pattern between the two ribs (on both sides), which will give the impression that your roof is made of long vertical panels from the ridge to the eaves.
There are essentially 2 main types: R-panels and 5-volt crimping panels. The 5V crimp, a popular choice for austere homeowners, resembles standing seam panels, with the essential difference that the fasteners are visible in the 5V crimp while hidden in the standing seam.
The R-panel can have many variations. Names can be a bit confusing at first, but if you imagine a side profile of what these signs look like, the name becomes easier to understand.
The outer rib along the edge will be the top of the R, then the panel will be flat until there is an edge similar to the bottom of the R.
5V shrink, looking sideways, you guessed it, 5V ribs per plate. With R-panels on the market there are a number of creative ideas about the distribution of the ribs and the shape of the ribs.

Did you know that? There are even some types of ribbed panels that do not fit as well into the R-panels category, such as B. PBU panels.
Here you will find several examples of different corrugated sheets where fasteners are hidden or concealed, such as B. CFS sheets from Mueller Inc. The fasteners are hidden by a locking mechanism, similar to a standing seam.
The length of the panels can vary from 3 to 42 feet (may be longer). The Home Depot sells R-panels 16 feet long and under. They have about 10 colors. This brings us to another consideration. Are only 10 colours available for this product? No, and it’s not.
Fabral, the Home Depot and Lowe’s carry manufacturer for ribbed metal panels, offers 20 colour options on its website. And certainly not the only manufacturer of ribbed metal panels.
The reality is that the colour possibilities are not limited and that each brand will offer slightly different shades, while most are likely to offer the possibility to match any colour. Although it costs more than what they mass-produce for the housing market.
Another option to consider. In general you will find 29 or 26 meters on ribbed metal roofs. We have found at least one supplier, MetalDeck.com, which offers 22 and 24 meters in addition to the 2 standard sizes. And remember, the smaller the meter, the thicker the material.
Benefits
- Cost-effective compared to other metal roofs or their equivalent in corrugated cardboard.
- Wide variety of styles – can look like a standing seam
- Unlimited colour variation, although 10 to 40 options are widely available.
- As a metal product it is flame retardant, resistant to fungi and insects.
- A big comeback
- Environmentally friendly – the material is recyclable and also offers the advantages of a fresh roof.
Deficits
- Fasteners are usually exposed and can be maintained/repaired approximately every ten years.
- As the joint will most likely be used to seal the gaps between the panels, this is an additional maintenance consideration.
- Metal can be dented or scratched, which is another problem or reason not to inspect your roof more often than once every five years.
