5 Summer-Inspired Window Treatment Ideas To Keep Your Home Cool

I love the warm weather, but being a New Englander, I do not like the idea of spending winter indoors. That’s where window coverings come in. When you have the right window treatments, you can feel as if you are in the heart of the summer just by looking out your window.

Summer is a great time to think about updating your home’s window treatments, and there’s no better time than now to think about how to make your windows more functional and reduce your energy bills.

Summer may be over, but we’re not ready to put up any of those ugly blinds just yet. Rather than spending your precious summer months inside, enjoy the fresh air and let some sunshine ease you into the cooler months. From window treatments to blinds, here are some window treatments to keep your home cool this summer.. Read more about best window coverings to keep heat out and let us know what you think.

Do you feel weighed down by the summer heat? Is the compressor on your air conditioner constantly running, yet your house isn’t cold enough?

Most houses lose 10% of their heat via windows, with higher losses if you have floor-to-ceiling windows or windows that face the sun – particularly during the day.

How?

There are many options. The heat is transmitted via the gap between the panes when the sun’s rays travel straight through the glass.

Warm air may flow straight through the frame and outside air can penetrate around it.

All of your efforts to keep the home cool may be undone by the windows, but this does not have to be the case.

You don’t need to remodel your house to get new windows. Small maintenance tasks can keep your house looking fresh throughout the summer. Keep it cool with these summer-inspired window decorating ideas.

1. Use shades to dress up your windows.

If you want to start with the exterior, blinds are a good place to start.

Most windows aren’t covered, but shutters connected to the house’s exterior may be an excellent method to cover everything and keep the temperature down when the sun is shining brightly.

Even a modest investment in wood slat shutters may help to retain heat.

2. Shuttered window structures

You may have European-style shutters placed on the exterior of each window for a long-term solution to keeping your house cool if you want it to be even more elegant.

These retractable automated metal shutters have been used throughout Europe for almost a century.

The blinds are completely lowered and secured at the press of a button, providing a secure barrier, particularly for big windows or floor-to-ceiling windows.

Heat and sunshine are reflected back to their source, preventing them from entering your house.

A word of advice: When completely closed, these shutters not only dissipate heat well, but they also offer a complete barrier against burglary, improving your home’s security.

3. Window film processing

Not all changes have to happen on the outside. Some of these may take place in your home.

There are still numerous methods to keep your house cool if you don’t own a home or live in a condo or apartment complex.

A window sun protection film is an adhesive film that adheres to the window like a sticker.

If you just want them to remain in place during the summer, non-sticky static adhesive stickers are available, or you may invest in a more lasting reflective and anti-UV primer.

To fully block out sunlight, static blackout films may be employed. In any case, the purpose of this window film is to provide more privacy when the windows are open in the summer, as well as to reflect sunshine and heat back to the outside.

These films are simple to apply and may be used on any size window for a short period of time.

This is particularly useful if you don’t own your house or apartment but still need to regulate the amount of sunshine in the summer.

4. Long eaves window decorating

Above every window, particularly those in the bedroom, a long curtain rod may be placed. Curtain rods that are longer provide more coverage.

Instead of using traditional window assemblies that connect directly to the window frame, long curtain rods that reach beyond the border of the window frame may be used to pull curtains around it, shutting the window and limiting sunlight where and when it isn’t needed.

It not only filters direct sunshine, but it also blocks a lot of heat, which may cause your home’s temperature to fluctuate.

5. Blackout curtains as a window treatment

If you purchase lengthy poles, you need also replace the curtains.

Downward-facing plastic blinds that have been in use for a long time are insufficiently thin to offer adequate protection from excessive heat waves coming through the windows.

The more windows you have, particularly if you have direct sunshine, the worse this issue may get.

Even thicker wooden slats may permeate the space like a stove if painted white. Consider drapes that are thicker, heavier, or darker.

These curtains are designed to block out all light, which is very beneficial for individuals who work at night and need to sleep during the day.

However, in the summer, you may use them to block out as much extra heat as possible in areas where you are not working or sleeping.

Overall, just changing your windows may enhance the temperature of your house in a variety of ways. There are options for investing to save money in the long or short term.

Window treatments that work well in tiny apartments will also work well in big houses with floor-to-ceiling windows. It’s entirely up to you whether you choose to spend in outdoor or interior summer window decoration ideas.

Don’t overpay for air conditioning when you may save money each month by using easy window decoration ideas.
