There is something nice about having a rug under your feet, but rug is not always the easiest material to maintain. No matter what kind of carpet you have, it will end up dirty and stained. However, not all stains are the same and there is probably no stain that is more difficult to remove than mascara, regardless of colour. If you’ve ever had ink on your carpet, you know exactly what it is. We have compiled a list of the best methods to remove ink from your carpet. Try one or all of them.
1. Carpet cleaner
This should be your first step to cleaning before you try anything else. After all, carpet cleaners are designed for one thing: cleaning carpets. There are different types of cleaning products. You can purchase industrial or general cleaning products that give you extra cleaning power. You can also use cleaning products designed to clean areas with heavy traffic. Chances are they’ll get a good amount of ink on your carpet, especially if it’s fresh. It may be harder to get the cured ink out, but we have other options.
2. Dishwashing liquid
Hard fat has nothing to envy of some of the best dishwashing detergents on the market, and they happen to work just as well for ink. According to this article, dishwasher detergent works exceptionally well for the treatment of ink-stained carpets if the ink is water-based. Just dissolve a little detergent in hot water and immediately start washing the dirty area with a cloth or small towel. Repeat this process until the ink is completely dissolved.

Permanent ink can be particularly difficult to remove, especially if it is found, for example, on certain types of carpet. B. on textured or plush flowers. Due to the low consistency of the washing alcohol, it penetrates the carpet fibres more easily than other cleaning solutions. To remove paint stains on a carpet with rubbing alcohol, do not pour the alcohol directly onto the spot. Dilute the alcohol with a little warm water and slowly remove the stain by dabbing.
4. Detergent
Detergent works in the same way as dishwasher detergent when it comes to removing stains. The detergent is designed to work with organic or synthetic fibres in garments that have a similar composition to most carpets. The detergent works with water and shake a little to remove stains. However, do not shake the carpet too much, as the fibres may tear. Mix the detergent with hot water and apply the mixture to the contaminated area. You can use a soft brush if the stain cannot be removed with a towel. An old toothbrush does wonders for removing ink from carpet.
5. Hairspray
Hair care products are often rejected for the damage they can cause, and hair sprays are the most rejected in years. It turns out that hairspray can do more than just keep hair in place. They are very useful as stain removers, especially when it comes to permanent ink on carpets. The hairspray works like a colour softener. Spray as much as possible to slowly saturate the dirty part of your carpet. Allow the lacquer to soak in a little, then let it dry gently with a towel until the stain is completely removed.
6. Ammonia
If you have a stain that doesn’t bleed with alcohol, you can try an ammonia solution instead. Ammonia is known as a useful ingredient in cleaning solutions and is in itself very effective. As an alternative paint stripper, ammonia should be mixed with warm water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution and leave it on for a few minutes before swabbing. If a simple ammonia solution does not work, try adding a teaspoon of detergent for a stronger solution. Repeat the process if necessary.
7. Lubricant
Before you try this method on your carpet, you should first test it in an inconspicuous place. Grease may not react well to your carpet, or worse, it may even cause a stain. Afterwards, spray a little grease on the ink-stained mat. After a few minutes, slowly rinse the grease with soapy water and a cloth. Do it slowly until the stain disappears.
8. Distilled white vinegar
There’s nothing vinegar can’t do. This is one of the most useful things you can find in the kitchen, especially when it comes to cleaning. We all know that vinegar works wonders as a non-toxic cleaner. It’s powerful without being harmful. As long as you can tolerate the smell, you can use distilled white vinegar to treat coloured carpets. Vinegar should work well against all kinds of ink stains. Mix equal parts of water and vinegar and apply the solution to the contaminated area. Then rinse with hot soapy water.
9. Acetone
Acetone can remove more than just nail polish. It is strong enough to remove sticky labels or stickers and can also remove ink stains from your carpet. With this method you can just use a cotton swab soaked in acetone. Carefully apply acetone to the contaminated area. You don’t want to push the ink stain deeper into the fibres. Keep soaking until the stain is completely removed.
10. Shampoo
If you have a light ink stain, the shampoo should come off immediately. Baby shampoo is preferred because it is soft enough for the fibres in your carpet. However, if you don’t know how to remove ink stains from your carpet, it may be a good idea to simply clean the area with shampoo. To do it right, you need a machine that does most of the work for you. If you don’t have a comfortable treadmill, you can rent one. Make sure you buy the best carpet shampoo compatible with your steamer and use it according to the shampoo’s instruction manual(s).
