Here is our design guide for granite quarries, with popular questions and tips on how to use this beautiful natural stone in your garden.

Concrete and refractory bricks are two types of material that one often thinks of when it comes to chimneys.  However, a granite quarry can be attractive and give your terrace an attractive design. Below we answer many frequently asked questions about granite quarries to help you decide if they are right for you.

Can granite be used for a fire pit?

Granite is a durable material that can be safely used in the design of fire wells. It is a good choice for a fire pit that can use different types of granite.

The most popular types are granite blocks, crushed granite or decomposed granite, all of which can be used in some parts of these fireplaces. The use of more than one type is also highly desirable.

Why use granite for a fireplace?

As mentioned earlier, granite is extremely durable and physically attractive.  Granite offers many possibilities for personalisation and a wide range of colours and patterns. But there are also not many limitations in terms of size and shape. This uniqueness makes the use of granite an elitist choice.

Granite is a fairly dense material, which makes it less likely to absorb water and explode when heated. This is important when it comes to fire pits, because they are outside when there is a chance of rain and other weather conditions. When lighting an insertion well, it is important that there is no water to avoid dangerous situations.

The use of granite as a chimney material offers the advantage of functionality. Granite blocks tend to feel cold when used. That way, if someone accidentally trips over it, it won’t burn through.

Granite is generally resistant to rust, cracks and stains. It also protects adjacent decks from these problems, while requiring little maintenance. Moreover, granite fireplaces are generally very durable, which means that the need for replacement is also extremely low.

Can cracked granite burn?

Granite doesn’t crack at high temperatures. The melting point of dry granite is 1215 to 1260 degrees Celsius (2219 to 2300 degrees Fahrenheit). The fire, which varies from orange to yellow (probably in the fire pit), is hot at about 1100 degrees Celsius (2012 degrees Fahrenheit).

How to make a granite boiler house?

You can create a fireplace in several steps. We summarize it below.

First dig out part of the desired chimney. It must be at least 5 feet in diameter and 6 inches deep. It could be more. This hole must be filled with gravel or sand to allow drainage during rainfall.

Next, the surface of the natural granite must be chosen according to the desired colour and thickness. They’re usually in blocks.

Thirdly, the blocks are placed in a ring around the dug hole to create a fire pit. It’s very important to hold on, as is the alignment. Several layers are stacked until they reach the top of the hole and the desired outside area.

Finally, the fire pit must be filled with a lot of sand or gravel to avoid unnecessary negative effects of the elements.

If you are building a firebreak, it is important to check local regulations to make sure you have the right permit for this type of work. It is also important to find the right location for the granite quarry you want.

Here are some factors to consider. B. wind conditions, proximity of trees or shrubs, proximity of the property to the house, and even the type of use. Determining all these factors in advance can speed up the approval process and save you the grief of burning something you didn’t want.

Developing a recreational area around or near a fireplace can also lead to better use of and awareness of fire. This can increase both the safety factor and the level of sophistication. Visit this page to learn more about stone terrace ideas.

What’s decomposed granite? Decayed granite is granite that is weathered and crushed enough to break into small pieces. This creates a softer, less stable space.

Is broken granite different from decomposed granite? Shattered granite becomes sharper and has clearer shapes. Decomposed granite is, as said, natural and therefore creates more organic shapes with softer edges.

Is decomposed granite expensive? Decayed granite is not as expensive as large pieces or crushed granite. It can indeed be recycled or reused more than a brand-new piece of granite. This material generally costs between $40 and $50 per cubic meter.
